Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

Employment Agreement

My employer of 8 years has asked me to sign a new employment agreement. I signed one when I was hired. Is it standard to have an employee sign another one? There are some changes and I am not comfortable signing the new one. I assumed the one signed when I was hired would span my entire employment with this company.

Re: Employment Agreement

Without seeing the specific original agreement it is impossible to definitively answer your question. However, generally, an employment agreement can cover the entire course of an individual's employment. This does not mean that the employer cannot ask for another one or that the employee cannot ask for a different agreement.

The general law in Tennessee is one of employment at-will. This can be altered by contract so it is important to understand all of the terms and conditions of your old and new contract. It may be worth having an attorney review your contracts with you if you have any questions. If you would like to consult with us, I can be reached at [email protected].
