Overpayment by employer

A former employer overpayed via direct deposit. What are the legal implications of this? Is it the employer's responsibility to identify the error and contact me, or do I have legal obligation to informt the employer of the error? Do I have any legal claim to the overpayment amount?

You should return the money if it is not yours. When the employer discovers the error they will seek its return and you will be obligated to return it to them.
