Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

Can previous bankruptcy affect employment possibilities?

My wife and I have just completed bankruptcy. She is about to get a new job, but she's worried that since the company will do a credit history check, the bankruptcy will raise a red flag, and prevent her from getting the job.

My main question is this: Can a perspective employer reject you for having bankruptcy in your (recent) history?

Re: Can previous bankruptcy affect employment possibilities?

It is unlawful for an employer to discriminate against a person because of that person's having previously been in bankruptcy. If your wife believes that she has been discriminated against, she may want to consult with an attorney to discuss her options. If she would like to consult our office, you can email me at [email protected]
