Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

help????

i recently got demoted at work even though i had seniority. i was given the chance to move to another department for less pay. the bosses told me i would keep my seniority in the new department. if that is the case how come i got demoted and i had seniority over everybody else??

is that legal?

Seniority, in and of itself, does not grant any particular job protection in Tennessee. You may have some sort of protection, however, if you believe that the demotion was discriminatory or retaliatory. If that is the case, then you should consult with an attorney to discuss the details of your situation to determine if you have a legitimate claim for an illegal employment action.
