Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

Relocation Money not paid back.

I went to work for a company in another state and had family troubles and had to leave the company. I was paid a relocation fee and didn't pay it back, under the advice of an HR person. 3 years later, they want it back. Do I have to pay it back?

Re: Relocation Money not paid back.

The answer is probably yes, but it depends on a number of factors. The first is what sort of written agreement there is requiring the repayment. Another factor which would likely impact the amount would be how long you continued to work there after the relocation.

Assuming that you had a written agreement, your best course would probably be to deal with the former employer in attempting to work out a resolution.
