Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

Shift differences

There are 2 shifts at my employment. day and night shifts. Day shift gets extra little benefits, like having more clean up time, getting to go to their lockers before the bell rings, so they will be ready to go immediately. I work 2nd shift (night). We barely have enough time to do half the cleaning we are required to do, staying busy even after bell rings. We will now get a corrective action against up if we quit a little early to have enough time to clean. Are both shifts supposed to be treated equally, or is it up to the night manager to make up the rules how he see's fit?

Re: Shift differences

Based upon what you have posted, it is likely legal for the employer to treat the different shifts differently. However, if you are not getting paid for all of your time spent working because of the difference in treatment, then the employer is violating the Fair Labor Standards Act.
