Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

Termination without reason

I was terminated on Feb 24th, 2003. I asked at time of termination the reasons for termination and was told that no questions would be answered to that regard. I had intimate knowledge of business practice and policies. I can only assume it was due to performance issues eventhough I was not aware of any. Others in the department who had performance issues were put on probation for a period of one to six months depending on the infraction. I was the youngest member of the department. I had knowledge of practices within the department that were not exactly legal. Can they terminate me without the probationary period that was given to other members of my department? Without giving a reason?

Re: Termination without reason

It may be that you were illegaly terminated. In Tennessee, generally an employment relationship is at-will. But there are exceptions for terminations that are discriminatory, retaliatory or for protected whistleblowing activities. If you believe that you may have been the victim of any unlawful activity, please contact an attorney as soon as possible.
