Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee
Over Time Pay
I work for a Hallmark card shop, NOT owned by Hallmark. The parent company of my store has about 13 other stores as well as the one that I work at. On occasion I have worked at both my store and the other store located in the same city as mine. The reason : they needed help. Well my hours at ''my'' store and the hours at the other store i helped at were over 40 hours. The DM (district manager) stated that because I worked at two different stores I do NOT get overtime pay. Is this true?
Thank You
Joseph

Re: Over Time Pay
No. Generally if the stores are all owned by the same company and you work more than 40 hours you are entitled to overtime. Recovery may be complicated if the stores are each incorporated separately.
