Legal Question in Employment Law in Tennessee

Unpaid Training

Our county sheriff's department has a part-time, on call, ''reserve'' deputy program. You are paid for hours worked after a 384 training program for which you are not paid. There is also a manadatory 40 hour per year training requirement for which you are also not paid wages. Is this legal?

Re: Unpaid Training

Generally speaking, mandatory training is time for which you should be compensated. For more information about what counts as hours worked, visit my publication on counting hours worked at http://www.memphisemploymentlawyer.net/index_files/Countinghours1.html.

If your employer is not paying you or other individuals in your situation, you probably need to contact an attorney to attempt to help you with this situation. If you would like to schedule a consultation, you can contact me at [email protected]. Thank you.
