It makes a difference if the hospital is public (owned by the government) or private. If a public hospital, then you will have due process and equal protection rights that can be imposed on the hospital to give you a fair hearing.

If it is a private hospital, then you will only have a right to a hearing and to refute the allegations to the extent it is covered in an employee handbook or some other policy manual given to you when you first became affiliated with the hospital.

The hospital should not slander your name without proof. It sounds like you do not work for that hospital anymore, and it is not affecting your ability to find work elsewhere. If that is the case, I would let the matter die down and see if you can get more details after you become affiliated with a new hospital and are secure in that position.
