As a general statement of law, Tennessee does not require a 'reason' for a termination. However, that does not mean that every termination is legal.

For example, an employer cannot fire someone for a discriminatory or a retaliatory reason. Many times an employer may try to mask an illegal reason with a false or no reason at all. If you think that you have been discriminated or retaliated against, you should consult with an attorney to find out if your rights have been violated.
