Forced move
My landlord works for a major paint company. I worked at the same company when I rented my apartment from him. I now work for another major paint company. My landlord's company has told him to give me thirty days to move or he will be terminated. They are basing this upon 'conflict of interest'.I don't want to move, nor does my landlord want me to move, but he feels pressured by his company. He feels like they've got him 'between a rock and a hardplace'. Can his company force this action? What about my rights as a tenant? Our relationship, and my renting from him, in my opinion, does not creat any conflict. What should I do?

If you have a lease and you've abided by the terms of the lease, you can continue to live there until the end of the lease or you both could agree to terminate the lease earlier. If you are forced to move prior to the end of the lease you may have a cause of action against the landlord for terminating the lease and against the the company for tortius intereference. If I were in your shoes and I agreed to terminate the lease early in efforts to ease the pressure on the landlord, I'd ask for my security deposit in advance and one month's free rent to offset the expenses of having to secure new housing.
