Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Tennessee

My roommate committed suicide. My lease is not up for another 2 months on the house we lived in.

I do not wish to live in the house anymore. My landlord wants to hold me to the lease and pay the last two months if I move out. I was told that if I talk to a counselor that they could issue me out of the lease so that I could move. Is this true?

I am sorry about your roommate's death and I can well understand your not wanting to remain in the home; however, your landlord has the legal right to hold you to the remainder of the lease. Quite possibly, as a gesture of goodwill and human sympathy the landlord would agree to cancel the lease. but there is no legal requirement for him or her to do so.
