Legal Question in Military Law in Tennessee

General honorable for single parenthood

My husband was in the military from 3/2001-01/2003, with an impecable record. His son (who's biological monther was declared unfit) was in the care of my husband's mother while my husband was in the army. My husband's mother was diagnosed with cancer, and had to be hospitalized. The army discharged my husband under general honorable for single parenthood. He cannot join the police department due to this.

He also had his joining bonus debited, and they continue to take his tax returns to this day.

I'm wondering what we can do about the discharge, what we can do about the debt, and if he would be able to get a GI bill for education?

Thank you!

Kristen

Re: General honorable for single parenthood

Your husband will need to apply to the appropriate discharge review board to have his characterization of service upgraded to Honorable. He will probably not be able to receive his GI Bill benefits until his record is corrected to reflect Honorable service. Feel free to contact me for help.
