Legal Question in Personal Injury in Tennessee

Must a defendant appear at trial in a civil case and does he have to be subpoened for trail after service of the compalint?

No, but a default judgment will be taken if he fails to appear and/or answer the complaint. A Subpoena is not necessary for a party to the complaint.
