Legal Question in Personal Injury in Tennessee
Liability limits of 18 yr old driving daughter
My 18 yr old daughter has an eating disorder. She sometimes does not function well emotionally or physically, but still drives her car which is titled in both our names. Her insurance is on her mothers policy & the company is different than mine. As a co-owner of the car can I be sued by someone if she injures or kills them? If so, how can I protect myself?

Re: Liability limits of 18 yr old driving daughter
Yes. Under Tennesse law you could end up liable on two different theories:
1) You were providing a car to someone who you had reason to know might be driving negligently (you mention that she does not function well emotionally or physically).
2) If she was using the car for the benefit of you or the family, you will be liable for any of her negliigence so long as you own the car.
So long as you make sure she is properly insured, you should be protected.... or get the car in the daughter's name.
