Yes, there are several ways you may be able to recover for your (your daughter's) loss. First, it may very well be the case that you or your daughter have insurance that would cover this claim. Second, you may not be correct about the driver being uninsured. Unless you have thouroghly investigated the issue, there may be insurance coverage that you are not aware of or even the driver is not aware of. For example the driver may be insured through his or her parents without even realizing it. Finally there are ways of recovering even without insurance coverage but since this is a friend, I realize that would be a difficult decision for your daughter to make. In any event, there are very important deadlines with regard to insurance companies (if applicable) and court proceedings, so please contact knowledgable counsel to discuss those as soon as possible. Briefly I would say that you need to look at the circumstances of the wreck to determine if someone else could have contributed to the wreck.
