Legal Question in Personal Injury in Tennessee
What are my options?
I was involved in an auto accident that was not my fault as documented by the police report and eyewitnesses. It has been 21 days and my insurance company has not gotten anything set up with the other drivers (a Taxi service) insurance company. Is there a time limit for liability? My claim rep said the other parties insurance is "trying to settle a coverage question reqarding weather or not they were going to extend coverage to thier insured for the accident". What does that mean and should I seek an attorney to handle this claim and situation?

The first thing that you need to keep in mind is that the police report proves nothing other than that was what the police report said -- it does NOT determine who was at fault, and the report might not ever even be allowed into evidence.
The next thing to keep in mind is that 21 days is no time at all and that it may take much longer than that to resolve your case.
The third thing to keep in mind is that the statute of limitations (the time you are allowed to try to settle the case without losing your right to file a lawsuit) is one year for cases for personal injury, but three years for claims for property damage.
Should you get an attorney to help you? Well, you are only 21 days into the process and already are frustrated and don't understand what is going on.... wouldn't it make sense to have it handles by someonw with some real expertise, who does it for a living, knows what to expect and how to respond, and who can answer your questions and take over your headache?
