Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Tennessee

Hole in the Wall

I moved into a townhouse April 4, 1997. There was a hole in the wall and the door is about one inch off. These two things were suppose to be fixed before I moved in. It is now December 29, 1997 and the realitors have told me that the person who owns the townhouse refuses to fix the hole and the door. This hole is as big as a fotball. It is located in the bottom of wall beside the back door that is one inch off. It is impossible to heat our townhouse because of this hole and the door. our heating bill is outrageous. I need help and I do not know where turn. Do need a lawyer and if so what kind and how do I find one here in Memphis. I appreciate your help.

Apartment Repairs

I suggest you consult an attorney. Check with the local bar association who may give referrals. Did you have the representation to make the repairs in writing. If you did you may write a letter giving the landlord notice that you will make the repairs if they are not completed and reduce your rent by the amount of repairs. If it not in writing it is more complicated.
