how do i protect my acreage from being sold fraudulently by an imposter?

If you own the property ("acreage" that you're referring to), then the only way it can be sold and transferred legally is by a deed signed by you.
Assuming you purchased the property, then at the time of purchase you received a deed from the prior owner, which should have been recorded in the register of deeds office in the county where the property lies. This deed is notice to the public that you are the title holder (owner) of record - thus, you are the only person who can convey the title, e.g. sell the property.
