Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Tennessee

College Student Being Sexually Harassed Need Help

I attend college full-time in Nashville. I drive 2 1/2 hours there and back everyday because it is the only school in the state that offers my degree.

I have been sexually harassed by the President of the school. He pulls me out of my classes and escorts me to his office where he begins to tell me special treatment is for the ones who deserve it and its a benefit. I told him that wasn't in the handbook and he told me that I had been warned and if I don't comply he will suspend me. I am also denied a copy of my own student handbook at this point.

When I am finally ready to make a run for it and my class is already over the guys are making their little comments loud enough for me to hear. I'm horrified by the thought of going back there! What should I do?

You have a number of options. Such behavior is actionable, certainly against the adminstrator personally. Depending upon what kind of school, public or private, there are possible options against the school as well.

Public schools have to safe guard your constitutional rights, whereas private schools are not bound by most constitutional restrictions. Title IX of the Civil Rights Act might also provides protections against gender based discrimination and harassment.

To completely answer this question I would need to have more information. I need to know more details of what happened and how you were damaged, what your goals are, and how far you want to take legal action.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions.
