What do you need to do when you are the executor of a will and have a Roth IRA investment in a Capital company and you want to split it between the heirs?

If you are an executor, you will be governed by the will itself. You should not begin making distributions to the heirs or beneficiaries under the will until all the claims of creditors have been paid. Then you should contact the company that holds the IRA. They will tell you if you can transfer the shares themselves or do they have to be liquidated. Since the investment is in an IRA it is likely that the shares will have to be liquidated.

An executor of an estate must always be careful in dealing with the assets of the estate.

Hope this is helpful.
