Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee

lifetime dowery

My stepmother has a lifetime dowery to my deceased fathers estate. Then it goes to the children. We grew up there & still have things in the garage. My deceased grandfather has things in there that we'd like to have also. The thing is she won't let us touch anything in the garage or around the property. My question is, at what point is the line drawn with this ''lifetime dowery'' Is there like provision that we could do something about this? Or maybe throw her out?!! Its been a mess since my dad passed away. She's making things much more difficult for us children than it should be. My dad trusted her to do the right thing & she's not. Any help as far as the ''rules'' of this ''lifetime dowery'' title would be appreciated. Thank you

Re: lifetime dowery

Usually, language of this nature is included in a Will. Has your father's estate been probated? If, so, I'd like to see a copy of it to see what your stepmother really has a lifetime interest in. You may be entitled to some of your father's personal property now. Call me. 423 266-4855
