Is spouse responsible for deceased husbands credit card bills

My father recently passed leaving several credit card bills that were not in my mothers name. My mother had no idea some of the bills existed. All of the bills were in my fathers name only. He left no will. there is no estate. There is very little money. My mother is on fixed income. The house they lived in is in both their names and owned free & clear. My father appointed me his power of attorney as the oldest child. I would just like to know where my mother stands in regards to her responsibility if any in paying off these accounts. I appreciate any help or advice anyone could give. Thanks in advance
