Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee
A will, a quit claim and a dishonest sister
My dad is 88. My step sister is just waiting on him to die. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer a yr. ago & I've cared for him all this time. She's visited twice for ten mins. She's greedy & dishonest. Three yrs. ago she had a lawyer friend of hers write up a will for dad and brought it to him to sign. Told us that everything was equal for her & I. I wouldn't sign it. Dad & I took it to an attorney who said everything was writen up to go to her. Dad had the atty draw up a will & left his house to me. He put in the will that he made no provisions for the benefit of her because of her inattentiveness during the time of his declining health.
Someone told dad & me recently that when I wouldn't sign her will she got him to sign a paper not telling him what it was.(quit claim maybe?)(yes, he would sign without reading) (person who told us is now in very bad health & dying.)
What can my father do to protect me from her while he's still alive? What if he dies & she shows me something he signed giving her the house a couple of years ago? Before dad made his own will. Dad says that he would never sign his house over to her but admits she could have told him she needed his sig. on something & he might have signed it w/o reading it.
