Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I have been living with a man on and off for 12 years. This last time has been 4 years. I have been taking care of the home, the animals, cooking, cleaning, billing. His job takes him out of the country more than he is actually at home. When he is at home he spends his time in the garage drinking. I have left good jobs to be at home, upon his request. We are not married but he has proposed several times, I said yes each time, but he never wants to set the date and keeps postponing purchasing a ring. He now wants me to leave because he met someone else online. I am now unemployed and have no car in my name. Is there anything of the legal nature that I can do?

If you are not common law married to him then you will have no remedy regarding his property. If you purchased anything during that time with funds of your own or received a gift from him that would be your property. Common Law marriage is 1. Live together, 2. Hold yourselves out to the public as husband and wife, 3. Intend to be married. You facts do not fulfill the 3rd element as him asking you to marry shows you intend to get married in the future not that you both are holding yourselves out as already married.
