Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Texas
Bankruptcy-Marriage
I have excellent credit and Iam marrying a man that just filed chapter 7 against a credit card only. Will this affect my credit after marriage to him. I still have multiple income from my late husband?

Re: Bankruptcy-Marriage
If you married him after he was granted a discharge, I cannot see your name (or SSN) being associated with his old debts. You most certainly have no personal liability for his discharged debts as they have been discharged and you have no contract with the creditor to repay the debts. If you want to be sure, then don't get married until after the discharge. Keep in mind that not everyone makes it through the bankruptcy process. If he does not get a discharge and you marry him, the community property you create while married to him may be subject to a creditor's judgment or lien. You may want to investigate a pre-nuptial/partition agreement prior to your marriage. Go see a lawyer.
