It is not mandatory that you hire an attorney to represent you in a Chapter 13 case in Texas. However, it is very difficult to represent yourself. There are many special aspects of a chapter 13 that an individual would not be aware of. Your case would likely get dismissed and then you would be facing more difficulties because filing a second case requires a hearing before the judge. Many attorneys will work with you on the costs to file so that should not be an obstacle.
