The amount you are charged depends on a couple of factors. One is how much the court in your area of the state allows lawyers to charge. The second factor is whether the particular lawyer you talked to has decided to charge that full amount.

In your area of the state, the court allows lawyers to charge $3,000 and most do. We do not charge that much and there are a few others who don't, but the majority do charge the full $3,000.

HOWEVER, you usually do not have to pay the whole fee up front. $774 is our typical amount for that although I've seen some as high as $1500.

Regardless of how much of it they try to get out of you up front, the rest of it is paid out over 3-5 years. That makes it a lot more manageable.
