Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Texas

Who do I really owe?

I want to present a scenario and then ask my question.

Lets say that I owe Credit Card Company A about $5,000 and I stop making my monthly payments. After several months of the credit card company trying to collect on the debt, they turn it over to a collection agency. Who do I really owe the money to?

Lets carry it a bit further and say the first collection agency turns the debt over to yet another collection agency and they start sending me collection notices referencing the amount owed to the origin creditor. Again, who do I owe the money to and who should I pay?

Which leads me to my last question. If I were filling out the forms to file for bankruptcy, which company would I list for the $5,000 I owed? Would it be the last collection agency that sent me a notice, the original creditor, both, or every company that tried to collect on the debt?

Thanks for your time,

Re: Who do I really owe?

The collection agencies could own the debt, it may have been sold to them. If you file bankruptcy list them all, and everyone else you could concievably be indebted to. L. Maun 713.266.2560
