Re: SSi
There are various types of bankruptcy (ex: Chapter 7 - liquidation bankruptcy, Chapter 13 - Debt Adjustment) In addition, there are generally two types of fees. (1)attorneys fees and (2) court costs
COURT COSTS:
The Bankruptcy court increased its filing fees to $185 for Chapter 13 and $200 for Chapter 7, effective for cases filed December 29, 1999 and after. However, there is a good chance that the fees for bankruptcy may increase if and when the new bankruptcy bill passes. The 107th Congress was unsuccessful in doing so but the 108th Congress will convene for the first session on January 7, 2003, and it is highly likely that the bankruptcy bill will be proposed again.
ATTORNEY'S FEES:
As for attorney's fees, shop around. Ask questions. It is important you feel comfortable in this new relationship.
If you are on a limited income you may qualify for assistance from a legal aid or legal services office. To locate the nearest legal aid office try calling the State Bar of Texas in Austin at (800)204-2222.
Re: SSi
Short answer -- I recommend you file bankruptcy.
Everyone deserves at least one chance to start over again with no debts. READ MY FIRM'S PHILOSOPHY. If you have that much debt your creditors are probably hassling you quite a bit. In the future it may be possible to eliminate only a small portion of your debts so it is better to file now. The cost is generally around $1000.00 but most attorneys will give you a payment plan. Please call me to discuss your particular situation in greater detail. I would be happy to handle your case. ph. (972) 231-5500 or (800) 303-0720
