bad check writter for mechanic repairs

i once was in a class about auto repair shop laws and i was told that if we get a check on repairs and the customer cancel or had insiciant funds we are able to repozess the vehickle and hold the car until we recived the amount that was owed to us ?? is that true and can someone email me the place so i can go & print it out because i have a bad check from a customer that we put in a new motor in his van and he has no money to pay for the repairs but hw written me a bad check thanks

It's true. Talk to some of the mechanics in your area about getting a reliable repo man, and all the steps you have to go through in order to properly get your money.

The law is in the Texas Property Code for Garageman's Liens (not Mechanics & Materialmans Liens, since those are only for real estate). That isn't readily available online, but you can go to your county law library and look in the Texas Codes.
