Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Breach of contract - termination
I am an independent contractor and I entered into a written agreement with a consulting company. On the first day of the project the consulting company informed me my services would not be needed. The termination clause says the contract ''can be terminated at any time with or without cause upon 30 days written notice at the option of either party''.
Since I did not have 30 days notice I believe this is a breach of contract. What remedies do I have? Am I entititled to 30 days of compensation since the breach of contract has caused me to loose revenue (a) they did not provide me with the billable opportunity as stated in the contract, (b) the lack of a notice denied me the lead time need to aqcuire another engagement.
Thanks in advance.

Although this theory would take a bit of research, I suppose it is possible that they owe you salary until such time as the company gives you 30 days notice, and then you would be entitled to the 30 days pay as well.

It appears that you may have a claim for 30 days net income, assuming that there's not something else in the contract that would allow them to void the contract at the beginning.
