Broken Promise of Employment

I was promised employment with a husband and wife to work in their family business. They were in the process of transferring/remodeling it. I was told of the work I would be doing, what I would be paid and benefits. I was also told when I would begin working, when I would be a good time to resign from my current job and was promised a place to live on the premises of the business. Three or four days after I had placed a letter of resignation with my current employer, the husband and wife decided that they were halting all business plans due to the husband's infidelity. I was at that point umemployed. Is/was there any type of breach of contract (verbal) that was broken and what were their responsibilities? And, if so, what routes could be taken for compensation, etc? Thank you for you time and assistance.

Sounds like breach of contract. You must establish who the contract was with and the terms. The problem is one of proof. This was an oral contract. It will be necessary for you to muster evidence, ie witnesses, writings etc. to prove your case. Many times it becomes a matter of "he said, she said".
