Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
New business tax question
I want to start a catering business out of my home. I know I have to register with the county for a dba. My question is actually how do I file taxes? Will I need to file as personal income or a business income? I will do the work myself, and have no employees. My husband is employed with the county jail here, and his income is the one we file jointly (claiming our 2 children): will we need to change this once I begin the business? Or will my business income be filed strictly as business taxes?
I plan on begining this in late July, so any help will be benificial.
Thank you

Re: New business tax question
The business income will be personal income, and profit or loss will be shown on Schedule C of your income tax return. It is actually joint income since Texas is a community property state.
That will be added to your husband's income for tax purposes on your IRS 1040.
Don't forget to file with the State Comptroller's office for your sales tax number.
