Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

Contract Statute of Limitations

I am being sued for a contracted debt from 5/94. I notified the party claiming I owed the debt in writing in May 1994 that I believed I did not owe the debt. They contacted me for the first time about owing the debt (less than $500) in Sept. 1998. They are now suing me (plus lawyer fees, potential court costs and 4 years interest!). My question is - Is this beyond the statute of limitations for a signed contract in the state of Texas?
