Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Is Self Help Courses Illegal
I have heard that people selling self help courses in Texas is illegal. I tried to find it in the Statutes, but must not know where to look, as I couldn't find it.
I also understand that Texas is the only State that does not allow this, but I cannot find anything to confirm this.

Re: Is Self Help Courses Illegal
We are not aware of a statute which generically outlaws so-called "self-help" courses. Success Motivation Institute [SMI] for example, markets motivational products in TX, and most books stores carry books which fall into this category.
We have no doubt that several companies marketing such materials have been banned by the Attorney General, or enjoined or otherwise restricted as there is plenty of fraud in the area, but we know of no prohibition against legitimate and honest companies selling their products if otherwise properly qualified and licensed to do so.
