Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Cremation
I believe Houston has one crematory that services all the funeral homes in this area. I also read that they charge the funeral homes $250.00 per body for that service. If both my staements are correct, how can a funeral home justify a bill of $5,000.00 for just the cremation, as recently occrred in our family. This did not include the urn, which was a separate (and also a very expensive) item, nor the use of the funeral palor, which was also billed separately. The emotional issue of the death, of course, drove up the total price of the funeral.as it does in most cases. However, I believe the cremation charge to be beyond the pale. We are not seeking any legal recourse, but would like your opion on whether you think that one charge was justified. Thank you.

Re: Cremation
You could argue that it is easier to get more money from people when they are dealing with a loss. I just learned today that you can buy a pine box on Ebay and take it to the funeral parlor yourself in Louisiana. This isn't something people like to shop for.
