Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
My dad wants to start a new business selling ribs on the side of the road in Texas/New Mexico and online. In coming up with a new name for his business, what's the best way to do that so that he doesn't infringe on someone else's business name or web address?
1 Answer from Attorneys
As a Franchise Attorney I can say there are many things you Dad needs to consider. Besides the proper licenses for cooking the ribs (which usually requires a commercial kitchen) and selling them, there are various health and safety permits. Going to your question, there are two good starting points. First do a Google search with proposed names. Second, do an onliine search with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney for specific advice.
