Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

Email Address Privacy Issue

Is it legal to look up someones email address using their name on some member network site and send them e-mail? The email wouldn't be an advertisement, but seeking some info. The name and email wouldn't be added to any mailing list. All emails will be sent individually and manually.

Does this kind of human harvesting and manual sending of email considered illegal? This happened to me and I would like to know what I can do to hopefully make them stop or remove me from their system.

Re: Email Address Privacy Issue

There's nothing illegal about harvesting names and addresses from sites that essentially are open to the public.

If someone is making a nuisance of themselves, you can contact their ISP and file a abuse complaint. Bear in mind that spoofing a sender is quite common.

Need more information. What type of "member network site"?

Have you contacted them to remove you from their list?
