Forgery

Received a damage claim from Avis today. 3 months after rental. Damage report was filled out on my behalf without my knowledge. Top of paper says to be filled out by customer only. They are now trying to bill me for $216. I am not willing to pay for this. I did not do it and was never told of the damage at time of dropoff or anytime between now and then. Is there anything I can do legally for forging information on my behalf?

I doubt it was forgery, just a goofy mistake by the AVIS representative in fillng in the wrong box. If I did not do damage, I would not pay.

Always have a rental car inspected when you drop it off and have them issue a form stating no damage. Keep that form.

They may claim against your insurance. If so, advise your insurance that you did not do the damage, and was not promptly notified, therefore it was obviously another renter, not you.
