Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
As a good Samaritan, I helped out a stranger that was in need of major car repair. I paid close to 2k in repair bills and signed for the invoice myself. In the interim of the repair a collection agency came knocking of the strangers door and demanded the car. They had money to come current on payments but the repo people didn't want it they just wanted the car. Fine, but I paid for the repairs which included rebuilding the engine. My question is can I make them pay me the 2K before releasing the vehicle?

Unless you had a contract with The Stranger, your assistance is considered (by the law) to be a gift.
Did The Stranger promise to pay you back? An oral contract can be enforceable. Did he sign anything?
And who is "releasing" the vehicle?
