Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

hot check from a company to my company

I own a auto transport broker company. A household moving company contracted with us to move their customers' car. We contracted with one of our carriers to move the car, and after the car was delivered we paid the driver. The moving company sent us a check and then put a stop payment on it, so it was returned unpaid to our bank. We are in Houston, TX and the moving company that sent a hot check is in PA. Can we file in Houston, or do we have to file in PA? Also, what is our best way to get paid?

Re: hot check from a company to my company

Based on what you have written, it appears that you have two different directions to potentially pursue. First, there is always the criminal avenue. To further this you would need to contact the District Attorney's office to assist you with prosecuting the alleged defendant. Second, you can always file a civil suit against the defendant. To further this this one, you would need to file a petition alleging the wrong-doings by the defendant. If my law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact my legal assistant Jennifer ([email protected]).
