Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Incorporation of Associations
I am the Director of the US branch of my anchestorial clan which is located in N. Ireland. I would like information on what is needed for this organization to be able to legally handle monies donated, gained from registration fees, fundraisers, etc? Do we need to incorporate or is there a way to register as a non-profit organization/association that will protect myself, as Director and my 6 Regional Coordinators?

Re: Incorporation of Associations
It is advisable to be chartered by the state as a non-profit or not-for-profit corporation to provide a business structure. You may, at the same time, apply for tax-exempt status with the IRS [501(c)(3)] if your organization qualifies.
If you do fund raising and accept chartiable contributions, you will be required to register with the office of the Attorney General and apply for all local licenses pertaining to such activities.
