Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

Internet Baking Business

I would like to start an internet baking business where i build and maintain my own site and sale my own pastries and eventually allow others who do baking to join in or do promotions using my site. I am curious as to what permits might be required to run a site such as this. Will I need food inspection or anything like that? I would just make simple pastries from my home and send out when requested.

In addition to Mr. Bradie's comments, please note that generally, foodstuffs (like bakery goods) to be sold at retail must be prepared in commercial kitchens.

The only difference between an internet business and any other business is the means of advertising. If you're preparing foodstuffs, you need a permit from the health inspector. Check with local ordinances to see what other licenses or permits may be required in your jurisdiction, since townsa and cities have additional rules concerning businesses. You'll also need to get a sales permit for sales within Texas. You'll need some sort of business organization, if nothing more than a sole proprietorship which requires filing an assumed name certificate with the county clerk's office.

You had best make sure that operating a commercial business from your home doesn't violate any restrictions or covenants where you live.
