Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Invalid employment offer made by company rep without hiring authority
I am in real estate and was recently approached by an acquaintance who works for a large, prestigious real estate firm. He convinced me to leave the small firm where I had been working and work for him. He told me he had talked to his boss and everything was fine. After I left my old job he then reneged on the offer, and his boss told me that my friend had never had the authority to promise me a job in the first place. Now I am unemployed and I never would have left my old job if I hadnt had a guarantee of a new one. I have emails to back me up. Do I have any recourse?

About the only legal recourse, for what it's worth, is to sue the guy who snookered you for your lost income.

I agree. No causes of action against the other Realty Firm. Possible cause of action against the "friend" for tortious interference of contract & potential business. This is especially true if his design was for you to lose your position with the old firm & clients.
