Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

about legal studies

Hi There

I got married in DEC 2006 and am on H4 status.

I did LLB from UNIVERSITY LAW COLLEGE, Bangalore (India).

I want to know what are the prospects and scope of Indian Law degree in US.

Am I eligible to work under any attorney now?

What do you think is the best way to have my Indian Law Degree recognized in US-

a) To prepare for bar exam of California or New York or

b) To be a continuing student at some law schools in Texas itself?

I appreciate your time and advice.

Thanks a lot.

Re: about legal studies

Since we don't have reciprocity with either California or New York, preparing for their bar would be a waste. If you want to practice in Texas, take some courses in a Texas law school. Some Texas laws are unique, and Indian law may not apply.

To supplement Mr. Bradie's answer, I doubt that the law degree from India would be recognized in TX. But you could check with the Texas Supreme Court to be sure. I would expect that your law degree would be very valuable to a limited number of firms with business in India. You might start your search there. Good Luck.

The State Bar of Texas will allow a graduate of a foreign law school to sit for the bar examination if an LLM is earned from accredited law school anywhere in the United States. Contact the State Bar of Texas to inquire whether your LLB from University Law College in India qualifies you to attempt an LLM in the U.S.. Good luck.
