Legal Question in Business Law in Texas
Loss of personal property at a business
My daughter was asked to bring her lap top computer to work. Thereafter she quit her job and handed over her key to the office. Two months later she asked for her computer to be returned and was told by her previous employer that it was stolen. Is he responsible to replace her computer?

Re: Loss of personal property at a business
Since her employer asked that she bring in her own personal property, he became responsible to safeguard it and return it when asked. Remember that your daughter's computer was obsolete, and the value isn't much. If she sues in Small Claims all she can ask for is money, and she'll have to prove up the value of the lost computer.
Your daughter's waiting two months doesn't help her case, since she should have looked after her personal property.
Re: Loss of personal property at a business
It appears from your question that the employer took possession of the laptop, but an attorney would need to know more details. I can research this for you if you do not get a complete response here.
