non compete agreement
how can a printing company prevent me from contacting customers that I originated while employed at the company?

By suing you for injunctive relief and court orders that you cease and desist. They can also go after you for attorney fees and damages for breach of contract.
I suggest you speak with an attorney that's familiar with non-compete agreements to see whether the one you signed is valid and binding.

They probably can't unless you signed a contract with a non-compete clause.

If they find out you are violating the agreement they can sue you for damages and embarass you.
