Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

Non-compete

I worked part-time at the AT&T Center sports arena in San Antonio. I left my position in July 2006. I recently tried to go to work for another company in the arena and was told that I could not work there for a year. My question is whether part-time employees in an arena where nothing is confidential about the job, and all postions are different can be held to a non-compete agreement. They have allowed 6 other employees from this company to go to worker for other employees. They since I was a key member of their staff it would be embarrassing for them to allow me to do the same. Is this something I would need to hire a lawyer to fight?

Re: Non-compete

Doesn't sound right. Did you quit or were you fired? If you were fired, could be they don't want you. If you quit to take another job in the arena, and now can't get one because of this mysterious non-compete, you might, just maybe, have a case.
